Social Value (Housing and Blue Light)

Social Value is about driving social, economic, and environmental benefits to our community. This incorporates more inclusion and work opportunities for the unemployed, particularly those who are young or have been out of work for a long time, tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, supporting Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises (MSMEs), Voluntary, Community and Social enterprises (VCSEs) and decarbonising the environment.  We are passionate about improving the wellbeing of local people by helping communities to thrive and be more vibrant and connected.

We have embedded Social Value in our procurement processes and many local individuals, businesses, schools and community groups have benefitted from the commitments of our supply chain, with much more planned in the pipeline. Contact us to find out if we can support your project.

Social Value delivery in Durham schools

Partner organisations of the County Durham Pound project and their suppliers have been working together to provide Social Value to local schools. To date, the partner organisations have collectively recorded 1,635 hours of school engagement activity equating to a Social Local Economic Value of £27,644 in addition to supporting special projects. For more information about innovative Social Value projects in Durham schools and to watch our Social Value videos, please visit County Durham Pound.

Social Value in Construction

We work in partnership with local construction contractors, boosting and implementing social value across County Durham. Through social value commitments, the contractors have engaged with communities; delivered apprenticeships; employed local people on contracts; provided gardening beds and site visits for school children; and improved the local environment. We use procurement and supply chain opportunities to maximise social value.

ICT Social Value

We have delivered 200 hours of social value by engaging with one of the other project partners, Bishop Chadwick Catholic education Trust (BCCET). As part of our connectivity contract, we delivered online and in person training on cybersecurity awareness to staff, parents and young people.

The County Durham Pound Project

As a founding member of The County Durham Pound collective, we are making a difference by building local supply chains and purchasing more local products and services; by considering social value during planning so communities have more control over their areas; and by increasing awareness and the social value of every pound we spend. More information about the project can be found at County Durham Pound.
