Early Career Teacher Induction (ECTs)

In County Durham we take the induction of ECTs very seriously, working closely with schools to develop, nurture and retain the best of our new teaching professionals so that our schools continue to improve, as do the outcomes and life chances for our children and young people.

What we can offer you

Schools and academies can access support and guidance for your ECTs during their induction. Durham County Council offers in-school support through the Service Level Agreement in Support and Development. We offer termly ECT networks to provide an opportunity to review updates, share good practice and network with other new teachers in the county. To find our more information please access the ECT channel on the Durham School’s Portal.

Bespoke, school-based and individualised CPD support for ECTs, Mentors, and Induction Tutors can be provided on request through Education Durham’s Support and Development services.

Please note that for 2024/25 onwards, ECT Induction Appropriate Body services will be offered by your local Teaching School Hub.
