Governance reviews

It is an expectation of the Department for Education (DfE) that those responsible for governance regularly evaluate their own effectiveness.  To support this process, EDGS offers 2 types of review: Governance Review and External Review of Governance.

Governance review

The focus of the review is to work alongside those responsible for governance to evaluate their effectiveness based on the six areas of the competency framework and linked to the three core functions.  Supported by a Review Officer, Governors/Trustees will be able to review their current practice, identify priorities for improvement and determine actions required to bring about the required improvement.  Following the review, support on the development of an Action Plan can be offered.

Cost: £450

External review of governance

An external review of governance is a supportive tool which looks at how well your Governing Body is working and provides advice on how governance can be improved and developed. Generally, a review will be commissioned following an Ofsted Inspection and in such cases the aim of the review is to enable those responsible for governance to address the recommendations made and support the school in moving from an ‘Inadequate’ or Requires Improvement’ judgement to at least ‘Good’.

Alternatively, those responsible for governance may request a review to seek external validation of their effectiveness.

Reviews focus on current practice and provide recommendations regarding how governance can be improved and developed.  Following the review, support to develop an Action Plan will be offered.
