School meals for governing bodies employing staff

We provide schools with professional, technical and contractual advice

in relation to school meals, including statutory compliance for Education England, ā€˜the School Food Regulations 2014’, school meals.

Advice and support

We will provide the advice you need to meet statutory compliance with:

  • ingredient and meal quality
  • food safety and hygiene practices
  • fabric and equipment condition and cleanliness
  • operational practices
  • food safety management System
  • the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013
  • school Food Standards; revised (January 2015)
  • food Information Regulation (FIR) December 2014 (allergen Information)

We provide operationalĀ support to help you manage the service:

  • legislation
  • food service
  • food hygiene
  • temperature compliance
  • fabric
  • equipment
  • cleanliness
  • operational practices
  • once a term we’ll carry out performance monitoring and feed back to the school and advise the head teacher and school governors of any potential catering issues
  • seasonal menus twice a year with allergy information and suitable suppliers.

A dedicated Catering Support Officer (CSO) will:

  • assist you in responding to Local Authority Environmental Health Officer reports
  • offer advice on kitchen design and upgrading, specifically the preparation of specifications for the construction of new facilities
  • offer advice for the replacement or upgrade of redundant equipment, including best value appropriate quotes
  • report on the condition of heavy and light catering equipment, ensuring it’s to an acceptable standard
  • advise on maintenance contracts and service intervals
  • advise on special diet procedure, liaising with the school, parent or dietician as required
  • assist you to formulate a school food policy and packed lunch policy
  • attend and participate in School Nutrition Action Groups (SNAGS) or school council meetings
  • investigate, record and resolve complaints about supplier issues
  • provide training on
    • induction
    • hygiene Awareness
    • allergen Awareness
    • control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH)
    • manual handling
    • hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP)
    • risk assessment
    • safe systems of work
    • craft skills
  • provide weekly/ half-termly/ termly and annual financial summaries
  • assist with staff recruitment and selection

Our administrative support will:

  • help you with free school meal enquiries
  • provide access to a (free school meal) checking service (this is free to non-eligible pupils, costing the school nothing – there is a Ā£10 charge to schools for eligible pupils)
  • consolidate and centrally record school meal uptake – the data supplied by participating schools is forwarded to Children and Young People’s Services (CYPS), these statistics are used for freedom of information requests
