Understanding Islam for Primary

What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?

Understanding Islam – 27 or 28 June 2022

Imran Kotwal from Muslim Learner Services will deliver a day of training exploring the five pillars of Islam: Shahadah (belief in Allah and Prophet Muhammad), Salah (five daily prayers), Zakah (charity), Sawm (fasting in Ramadan) and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca), how the five pillars are practised in Britain, diet, dress, festivals, life stages, the importance of the Mosque and Islamophobia.

Participants will be given a supporting training resource.

This course is ideal for primary subject leads for Religious Education, for those teaching the diversity units in year 2 and year 6 or for non-specialist teachers to further develop their subject confidence.

The course will take place at The Durham Centre, DH1 1TN

Cost: £155 for partner and £210 non-partner.

The course will be available to register places in the Summer term. Email DLC@durham.gov.uk to register your interest.
