Our Cleaning Section are pleased to announce that following a rigorous tender process, we have been awarded the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, Building Cleaning Contract.
The contract will formally commence on 1 September 2020 and runs for an initial period of three years with options to extend by a further 6 years resulting in a contract that could run for up to nine years in total. The contract secures employment for local people and further employment opportunities will become available over the life of the contract.
Both organisations are delighted to see the continuation of the partnership, which has been forged over the past 30 years, and our understanding of CDDFRS’ cleaning requirements will allow us to provide service excellence and an innovative approach across their estate. The new cleaning contract provides us with an opportunity to meet our mutual sustainability values through:
- the introduction of chemical free cleaning and water minimisation systems enabling us to remove the use of chemicals from the cleaning process
- increasing the use of recycled and recyclable materials, allowing us to remove all unnecessary single use plastics
- the use of energy efficient equipment to achieve a reduction in our carbon footprint.
David Dixon, our Facilities Manager, said “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded the cleaning contact for the provision of cleaning services to CDDFRS. This gives us an opportunity to continue with, and build on, our longstanding relationship and allows us to invest and apply modern cleaning technologies to achieve mutually beneficial cleaning outcomes.
We have a committed and skilled cleaning workforce who have dedicated many years of service to fulfil the cleaning requirements of the CDDFRS specification. By continuing to work in a partnership approach we hope to do our part in continuing to support the operational requirement of this important front-line emergency service and those that work within it.”
John Hancock, Estates and Facilities Manager for CDDFRS, said “The Service is very pleased to award and enter into this contract following an intense procurement process in which there was an exceptionally large amount of interest from locally based Companies to multinationals. DCC tender submission was judged the best overall on quality and value for money for our requirements now and moving forward over the next few years. We now have in-place a contract that focuses on service provision based on an output specification which in itself drives innovation, use of new technology and environmental efficiencies.
Thanks are due to the drive and enthusiasm of Service staff Joanna Smith, Tracy Ridley and Christine Robson who collectively have achieved this result.”
