A centenary of Tom McGuinness- 30 April 2026

Transfer Point painting of men down the mine by Tom Mc Guiness

In celebration of the centenary of Tom McGuinness on 30 April 2026, and in line with the National Curriculum, Durham Learning Resources have curated a unique collection designed to inspire children to explore the historical and cultural significance of a celebrated local artist.

A miner by trade, Tom McGuinness vividly captured the spirit and resilience of County Durham’s mining communities through his powerful and distinctive artwork. This carefully developed resource pack includes teaching notes that provide an accessible overview of Tom’s life and work, encouraging meaningful discussion and inspiring pupils to engage more deeply with his remarkable artistic legacy through a range of suggested activities.

“Pupils should be taught about great artists, architects and designers in history.” National Curriculum in England: Art and Design Programme of Study. Please note that only a limited number of packs are available, as original pieces of Tom McGuinness’ artwork are included within each collection. If you would like to incorporate this exceptional local study into your art planning for the coming year, we recommend reserving early.
