Our Construction Services team completed the £2.4m upgrade to the HWRC at Stainton Grove, Barnard Castle in March 2019. The project which commenced in April 2018, comprised of the provision of a larger household waste transfer station to the south of the County residents to recycle household waste, a shop where used goods may be sold and an area for small businesses to deposit trade waste.
The project, which was delivered by our in-house teams and in partnership with Esh Construction, included the demolition of the previous structures, reconfigurations and new buildings along with an extension to the site. One key challenge on site was the excavation works for the foundations as this was into bedrock. The team worked with the Army Reserves, who allowed us to use their land for staff welfare facilities during the project.
