Following the approval of the £5M from the European Regional Development Fund in 2021, £3.96m Invest to Save as well as £1.53M Capital Maintenance/Demolition, £4.55M Capital Investment and £558K Carbon we have delivered over £15,137,246.00 of improvements to the depot up to December 2023 that include:
- Demolition works to some of the old Colliery buildings and the creation of a temporary fleet car park that allowed the delivery of the following;
- Completion of the Low Carbon Depot works that included a 3MW solar farm and 2MWHr TESLA Battery storage unit
- A fully AI managed private wire electrical network
- A full thermal and Inspired refurbishment of the two main offices
- Upgraded smart external lighting, IT systems and security
- Decarbonisation of the horticultural nursery with ASHPs, LED lighting and thermal upgrade to the office and welfare building
- Completion of the new Fleet workshop that will manage the maintenance of everything from lawn mowers to 26T+ vehicles that is ready to manage a full electric fleet.
In 2024-25 we are currently finalising costs and designs for further works that will allow structural stabilisation works to the Bevin Buildings as well as structural and segregation works to the old workshop building.
We are also in the early stages of design to carry out resurfacing, traffic and pedestrian control as well as new fuel storage and security measures that will complete the essential works around the operational office and old workshops that will become the central depot store for all operational teams that will see a further £1M of investment.
